Every month Paul Morrell Formalwear tracks the rental data for all of the tuxedo styles we offer and determines which 10 coats were the most rented for the previous month. For most of the year, the Top 10 chart has consisted of the same 8 styles of Grey tuxedos and suits and 2 styles of tan tuxedos and suits, with very little variation. We anticipated that more seasonal variety would creep its way into the Top 10 chart in October, but as it turns out, we were just a month off.
The Top 10 chart for November actually looks a lot more like what we were expecting to see in October. Grey tuxedos and suits, while still very well represented, take up 5 of the top spots, down from 8. The other half of the chart is shared by 2 black tuxedos, 1 brown tuxedo, 1 tan tuxedo, and 1 midnight blue tuxedo. As top ten charts go, November’s is very diverse.
If you’re wondering why there is more variation this time of year, and how we’re able to predict it (give or take a month) the answer, my friends, is blowing in the wind. In warmer weather months, grey and tan tuxedos and suits typically dominate the Top 10 Charts because they are lighter in warm weather and very outdoor/daytime friendly. But when the weather cools down, more formal events start happening. More black tie galas, fall weddings, holiday parties, and other events generally usher in the need for darker if not more traditional formal wear. And because the weather is no longer prohibitive, the range of popular colors is much more diverse.
We predict that Black and Midnight blue tuxedo options will remain strong rental options throughout December and the holiday party season. Check back with us to see how spot on we are!
