In March, we saw a fairly typical spread of Grey, Black, and Tan across the Top Ten Chart.
Taking up 5 spots on the Top Ten Chart (including the top spot) were Grey Tuxedos and Suits, 4 tuxedos and 1 suit. That’s down from 6 spots last month, but still comprises the largest majority of the color families represented. Grey tuxedos and suits tend to rent well year around, so it comes as no surprise that they continue to do well in March. As far as the rental formal wear industry goes, March is generally a significant month because it is the first solid indicator of the trends that will dominate through prom season.
Next up on the Top Ten Chart are the Classic Black Tuxedos, taking up three of the remaining five slots. While proms are stylistically very versatile, Classic black tuxedos will always be the backbone of this industry, and will remain a strong renters through prom season. And until the weather turns too hot to wear them comfortably, they’ll continue to be strong renters.
Tan Tuxedos and Suits make up the remaining two spots on the Top Ten Chart. These are typically a popular choice during warmer months of the year, generally viewed as the quintessential option for destination/beach side weddings. But they are also very popular for prom because of their “formal but not too formal” aesthetic that corresponds thematically with most proms as well as destination weddings. Because of this, these tan tuxedos and destination suits will be strong renters for the majority of the year.
