In September we saw the first waves of fall fashion start to manifest, as expected fall trends became more dominate.
While in past months, we’ve seen grey tuxedos and suits occupy the lion’s share of the top ten list, last month saw more diversity between the color families. Grey tuxedos and suits still hold the majority of the spots, with 5 positions including #1 held by the Steel Grey ‘Twilight’ Tuxedo by Jean Yves. However, this is down from 6 positions in August, and 7 positions in July. As we’ve mentioned before, grey is a color family that we can expect to do well year around because of it’s highly versatile nature, but the changing weather will also usher in a few more styles to share the spotlight.
If there is any truly fall-specific color family within mens formal wear, it’s brown tuxedos and suits. And as the cooler weather slowly creeps across the country, three styles of brown tuxedos and suits (including the Tan ‘Rapture’ Destination Suit by Jean Yves) creep across the top ten chart, claiming both the 2nd and 3rd positions. Once a strong year round renter, the brown family of formal wear now generally does well only around time for prom and for fall weddings and other fall formal events.
Last to cover but certainly not least are the two classic black tuxedos, taking up the 8th and the 9th positions on the chart. If past trends stay true, these will increase in popularity as things continue to cool down. Arguably, nothing will ever truly top the simple elegance of a classic black tuxedo, but with more modern alternatives that handle warm weather better, black tuxedos and suits tend to have their heyday in the cooler months. Classic black will always be the staple of mens formal wear, and a safe bet for a solid renter year around.
